Job Description
Senior Research Officer. My current job as an oil palm agronomist has provided me with clear in-sight into various agro-management practices along with the invaluable exposure of providing and recommending sound agronomic practices with the objective of increasing oil palm yield production. AAR’s in-house training and continuous exposure has also provided me with the tools and skills to carry out both soil feasibility studies and soil surveys. As a microbiologist, I also carry desktop assessments on biofertilizers and/or bio-agricultural based products to determine their feasibility of being integrated into current oil palm practices. Furthermore, as a member of the Pests & Disease Team, I assist our clients in providing agro-management solutions in tackling both pests and disease outbreaks.

Key Research Interests
As a microbiologist, my research activities encompass a wide area ranging from microbial biodiversity studies with the key objective on elucidating the contributional factor of microbes in general on soil fertility and sustainable oil palm growth and yield. Since my recruitment, AAR has established a Microbiology Laboratory integrated into the Pest & Disease Laboratory. Together with our sister laboratory, AAR-UNMC Biotech Laboratory; we are able to isolate and identify (through molecular methods) microorganisms in both soil, biofertilizers, organic fertilizers and plants. With concomitant field and nursery evaluation trials, we are able to monitor the growth stimulating effects (if any) of microbes on oil palm growth and yield. Under the wing of the P&D division, I have to-date carried out trials involving screening of herbicides and likewise pesticide screening for control of leaf eating insects affecting oil palm. I have also developed a particular interest on oil palm leaf spot diseases and to-date have developed several in-house methods for identification of pathogens.
